I love to travel and I am always inspired to paint and draw by the differences I see in light, architecture and forna from country to country. However, the initial subject is merely a springboard.
As I develop a piece, I look for underlying structural patterns to exploit, experimenting with composition, tone, and colour balance. I am fascinated by how mark-making and texture dictate the emotional energy of a piece. At a certain point in the creative process, the original subject steps back, and the harmony and impact of the final artwork take precedence.
My paintings do not merely reflect what I have seen; they become living, vibrant objects in their own right, imbued with an exaggerated character and a distinct life of their own.
